It's ___ Being Scottish is a wee side project run by MBC Digital Ltd. We don't hold any personal data about you — there are no accounts, no sign-ups and we'll never ask for your name. But like most websites, we use a few services that do see some info when you visit. Here's what they are, in plain English.

Your cookies, your call

If you're visiting from the UK or Europe, we'll ask before setting any analytics or advertising cookies. Changed your mind? No bother — you can update your choice any time:

Who sees what (and why)

Visitor stats — Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to see how many folk drop by, which results they look at and roughly where in the world they're from. It uses cookies (like _ga) to collect things like your device, browser, rough location and the pages you view. It helps us make the site better — we don't use it to work out who you are.

We only do this with your consent.

Ads — Google AdSense

The ads help keep the lights on. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this site and other sites on the internet. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites.

Rather not see personalised ads? Easy:

Personalised ad cookies are only used with your consent. Say no and you might still see ads, just not ones based on what you've browsed.

Scores and fonts

Match data comes from ESPN and our fonts come from Google Fonts. Your browser fetches these directly, so they'll see your IP address and basic browser details — same as any website you visit. We need these for the site to work, so this is based on our legitimate interests.

Hosting

Like pretty much every website, our hosting provider may keep basic technical logs (IP address, time, page and browser) to keep the site safe and running. We don't use these to identify anyone. Again, that's our legitimate interests.

Where it goes

Google and ESPN may handle data outside the UK, including in the US. When they do, they use approved safeguards like the UK–US data bridge or standard contractual clauses. And we never sell your data. Ever.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you can ask to see, correct or delete data about you, object to how it's used, and withdraw your consent any time with the cookie settings button above.

As we don't hold any personal data ourselves, the quickest way to do this for analytics and ads is through your Google privacy settings. We're happy to help if you get stuck.

If you're not happy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
